Best Ever Bratwurst


  • In large saucepan or Dutch oven with lid, melt butter over medium-high heat. Saut√© onions, garlic, pepper and salt until softened and slightly browned (about 7-9 minutes).
  • Add brats and beer to pan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, 20-25 minutes or until cooked through. Remove brats from beer mixture; set aside.
  • Strain onions. Place onions back in pan, and continue cooking over medium heat until golden brown and all liquid is absorbed, stirring occasionally.
  • Meanwhile, prepare grill to medium heat. Place brats grill; grill turning occasionally, until browned evenly on all sides (about 10-12 minutes).
  • Place brats in buns. Top with caramelized onions, warm sauerkraut and horseradish brown mustard.
